Data is a hot topic. Everyone is concerned with how his or her data is being used. But most people still don’t have even the slightest idea about their health data. Knowing about my biological data has improved my life and well being more than I ever thought possible. I have been able to analyze my data over a long period of time, and make the requisite behavioral changes in order to improve my performance and mood.
The device I use is called Oura, and it is the best purchase I have made in quite some time. What it does best is track my sleep and overall ‘readiness’ for the day. It is a ring that is both fashionable and functional, and most of the time I do not even notice that I am wearing it. After connecting it to the app, I was able to track my sleep score and see how much I was really resting at night. I found that I often wake up in the middle of the night, and it was causing me to not get enough deep sleep and therefore, not getting fully rested.
I felt the effects of this, but now I was fully aware of the problem and knew that I had to make changes. The first was to stop drinking alcohol most nights. The concept of a ‘night cap’ is a total myth and actually inhibits sleep significantly. After dropping the habit of drinking wine at night, I could feel myself getting more sleep and it correlated with a higher sleep score.
After a few months of modified behavior, I feel like a new person, and it is all because of a small ring that I wear that offers some of the best functionality on the market.
